Exercise and physical fitness seem so far away for a lot of us. Pain, health problems, lack of time, no energy, and other issues get in the way.
In reality, all of these are mere excuses. We don’t want to go to the trouble to look after ourselves because when we first start to exercise, there’s a lot of pain and discomfort. We don’t like discomfort, so we quit.
After my first walk, I came home, sat on the couch, and popped the water blisters on my feet. I chugged water like there was no tomorrow. It was my first step.
I took one step out the door and then another. I started walking, and it’s changing my life.
Changing My 54-Year-old Body
Each walk makes me a little stronger, I feel better, I sleep soundly, and I know I’m taking positive steps towards not only better health, but self-discovery of the person I’ve locked behind all of this weight for so long. Resistance training is next.
It took losing 15 cents.
I was at the mall and some change dropped out of my pocket. I watched it hit the floor and looked at it. I knew I’d have huge problems picking it up, so I left it there. I went outside and stopped cold.
I was DONE
I was done taking my health for granted, done with the pain, done with the excuses, and done with feeling sorry for myself. I lost those 15 cents, and I want them back. That small amount of change was my life. It was my life lying there on the ground, not my money.
I Took a Step
I took a step to eat whole foods
I took a step to drink mainly water
I took a step to get rid of the beer I had gone back to after quitting last year
I took a step out the door and into the world
I took a step to examine who I am
Take A Small Step
Anyone can take a small step towards physical fitness and a better diet. Drink some water, eat better, and move. It takes a step and then another. Once you do it, then it’s routine.
Take a step.
You never know where it may lead.
