We live in a world of great abundance, particularly in food. You would think that with all of this abundant food, we would be healthier than an ox. It’s the polar opposite.
Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other ailments are skyrocketing across the globe.
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020, or nearly one in six deaths. Via Google
Food-Based Products Not Food
The problem with all this food we produce is that a lot of what we consume isn't even food, it’s food-based products. We have genetically engineered our processed food to taste amazing, and it's highly addictive. It's not real food. Sure, it contains food ingredients, but the vast majority of this so-called food isn’t what our bodies need to sustain us.
The food we produce lacks the vitamins and minerals we need to function. We exist on these food-based products and are literally starving to death for real nutrients. Sometimes we add vitamins and minerals to make the food appear healthier. We have forgotten what real food is. A lot of us don't cook anything any longer. We live on take-out or a store-bought box of instant crap.
I grew up in the 1970s. Almost every meal I had back then was cooked for me. We did go out, but it was pretty rare back then. We went out more in the 1980s as fast food became more widely available. We bought more processed food at the store. I remember the first frozen pizzas I ate, they were GOD AWFUL.
By the time I was nearly 20 years old, fast food and processed food were everywhere. We wanted the convenience of not having to cook. We were too busy. The processed food started to taste pretty good. The food industry had us hooked.
What Happened to all the Skinny Kids?
Go look at images from the 1960s. I look at these images from Woodstock as they are quite amazing. Almost all the kids in the photos are thin; there’s hardly any fat kids. Parents cooked meals for their kids back then using real food. Kids got the nutrition they needed to grow, and kids in the ‘60s and ‘70s were active. My street was full of kids playing ball, street hockey, or riding bikes. Where I live today? Total ghost town.
When I go for a walk today in my small town, it's rare that I see more than a handful of people outside. This is even after work hours or in the morning before work.
We Have Forgotten What Food Is
What we call food today is far from what we used to eat. We like the convenience of packaged food, but it lacks what our bodies need. Of course, real fresh food can also be expensive. This prohibits a lot of people from buying it. We also don’t promote it like we do unhealthy food.
It’s a crime against humanity
We are addicted to crap food and as a result, we have crap bodies. It’s not our fault. Our food has been engineered to kill us, all in the name of profits. Our processed food is the new smoking, and we can’t get enough of it.
In moderation, they say. Well, it‘s everywhere. How can one person moderate their intake of shitty food? It’s pushed to us more than a drug pusher would push heroin to a junkie.
As I change my diet, I realize just how vicious the food industry is. They don't give one flaming fuck about your health. All they care about is the precious profits. They will do whatever it takes to keep you fat and sick.
Big bucks baby, big bucks.
